UX Writing is becoming a popular UX field especially in the EMEA regions and this means there is a growing need for more professionals in the industry. If you wish to become a UX Writer but don’t know how to go about it, you are not here by mistake and I am more than happy to help.

START WITH A FREE COURSE

Starting with a free course allows you to test the waters in the field. It is quite easy to get carried away by the hype a tech field gets online only to discover that it doesn’t fit your skillset or life goals. With a free UX Writing course, however, you can determine if a career in UX Writing fits you or not. UX Writing Hub’s free course is a good place to start. The course is self-paced and simple enough for people with little or no background in Design to understand.

IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE, REGISTER FOR A PAID COURSE

Although most UX Writing Courses are expensive, some are still relatively affordable. Mario Ferrer’s course on Domestika is one of the cheapest and I personally recommend it. Next is Kinnereth Yifrah and Merav Lekowitz’s course on Udemy. Kinnereth Yifrah wrote the industry’s ultimate guide so an investment in this course is an investment that will continue to generate ROI for you as long as you are a UX Writer. You can find links to more courses here.

PARTICIPATE IN THE DAILY UX WRITING CHALLENGE

How do you become a better writer? You write. The Daily UX Writing Challenge is an effective way to improve your skills as a UX Writer especially if you don’t have a place to intern yet. If you post your works on the Facebook page also, you will have the opportunity to get feedback from other UX Writers.

BUY BOOKS IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD COURSES

You will be doing a lot of reading as a UX Writer so you might as well start investing in UX Writing books especially if you cannot afford expensive courses. UX Writing Library curated useful UX Writing Books here, you will find them useful.

JOIN A UX WRITING COMMUNITY

The reason is simple really, it is easier for you to grow when you have a supportive community and I may have just the right community for you. The Daily UX Writing Challenge Facebook group is a great community too. Most of the resources that have helped me as a UX Writer so far are shared by members of these two communities I recommend.

I must mention that there is no shoe fits all approach to becoming a UX Writer, there are so many paths you can take to get into UX Writing. These submissions are written as guides to make the journey easy for you. I am also open to suggestions that can help new UX Writers.
